"MiniWheg" is the first individual project I worked out. It combines my knowledge with design, mechanic, material selection, 3d modeling together.
MiniWheg Robot
The design start from some market research, These existed robots are initially inspired by the cockroach, make it simple and quick in mobility. And for further developments in the stiffness of the outer shell, the ladybird is choosing to be the model of the new design.

Material Selection
Outer Shell
For the outer shell, the material used needs to meet several requirements. First of all, the material needs to be lightweight, as the overall mass of the Mini-Wheg needs to be lightere than 200g. Also, it is better to be transparent, as the inner structure can be seen more clearly to see if there are any errors take place.
The CES program is used to compare many materials.
And after checking the information of these materials, the glass ceramic, which is mainly called silicon dioxide, is taking into considered.
Bottom Part
And for the bottom part, plastic like ABS is taking as the main material, as it is very light weight and cheap in cost.
Whegs and shafts
For the Whegs and shafts that connect them, the aluminum alloy is taking as the first choice for the Whegs and the connection parts..

Static simulation study - Wheg
In the static study, the force needed is added on only one leg of one of the four Whegs, the effects can be seen more clearly. Assumed that this model is fixed in the middle, and the force is applied on the part of the Wheg which will contact to the obstacle while climbing.
Drop Test simulation study - Wheg
As there is a requirement for the height of the Mini-Wheg will drop down from and not broken, so the drop test study is necessary to do to test if it meets the requirement or not.
Static simulation study - Shaft
For the shaft between the Wheg, a torsion study is necessary to test if it is stable enough as it will be twisted a little bit while the Whegs met the obstacle.
Fatique simulation study - Shaft
Also, the shaft also needs to be tested that if it will break or not after many cycles of using.
